About UPUDMV

Urhobo Progress Union DMV (UPUDMV) is a local chapter of Urhobo Progress Union America (UPUA), the recognized umbrella organization for Urhobo people and associations across North America.

We are dedicated to promoting Urhobo culture, unity, and community development among Urhobo sons, daughters, and all who identify with Urhobo heritage in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.

UPUDMV supports charitable, cultural, and educational initiatives while strengthening connections between Urhobo people at home and in the diaspora.

Our mission

Urhobo Progress Union America’s mission is to unite people of Urhobo descent and others who identify with Urhobo people and culture abroad and at home for the promotion of human development and Urhobo culture and ideals. Our nonprofit association shall promote charitable, scientific, literary, and educational projects in North America and Nigeria. Our motto in Urhobo language is “Okugbe, Egba, Voyan Robaro,” which translates in English as “Unity, Strength and Progress.

Our vision

Our vision is to be a unifying force that promotes and preserves the rich culture and traditions of the Urhobo people, while fostering a spirit of love, collaboration, and shared identity across generations. We envision empowered Urhobo communities—both in Nigeria and throughout the diaspora—thriving through the celebration of heritage, the nurturing of human potential, and the strategic investment in education, leadership, and community development.
